Burglary suspect nabbed by Belleview police

A 19-year-old Belleview man who was caught on video robbing a local store is behind bars after admitting to the burglary.

On Tuesday, April 9, the Belleview Police Department shared a video on social media of a burglary incident that occurred at an unspecified store within the city limits.

In the social media post, BPD asked for the public’s help to identify the male suspect seen in the video. No further details were provided by police regarding the date that the burglary incident occurred or the items that were stolen.

The following day, the police department released a photo of the male suspect on social media.

A week later, on Thursday, April 18, a BPD corporal spotted a man who fit the description of the burglary suspect. The corporal made contact with the man and observed that he was wearing the same pants and shoes that were seen on the surveillance footage.

The man was identified as Alex Payne Morales.

When the corporal questioned Morales about the burglary incident, he admitted to committing the offense, according to BPD.

Morales was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with burglary of a structure or conveyance with damage, grand theft ($10,000 or more but less than $20,000), and criminal mischief ($1,000 or more).

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
