Ocala man accused of burglarizing vehicle at auto parts store

A 41-year-old Ocala man is behind bars after he was accused of burglarizing a company vehicle belonging to a local auto parts store.

On Sunday, April 14, at around 7:25 p.m., an Ocala Police Department officer responded to the Advanced Auto Parts located at 2402 E Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala in reference to a man entering a company vehicle without permission and attempting to remove a camera system from inside the vehicle, according to the arrest report.

The company vehicle was identified in the report as a 2020 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Upon arrival at the store, the officer made contact with a manager who advised that the male suspect, later identified as Steven Patrick Oloughlin, had left on foot and was in front of a nearby restaurant. The officer noted in the report that Oloughlin was located in front of the restaurant in question, and he was detained in handcuffs.

The report stated that Oloughlin refused to identify himself. After being read his Miranda rights, he refused to answer any questions about the incident.

The store manager told the officer that he was assisting a customer outside the store when he saw Oloughlin enter the driver’s side of the Chevrolet pickup truck. Once inside the vehicle, Oloughlin allegedly grabbed a camera that was mounted to the windshield in an attempt to steal it, according to the report.

The store manager further advised that he “intervened verbally” before calling law enforcement. Moments later, the store manager observed Oloughlin exiting the pickup truck. In the report, the officer noted that no items were taken from the vehicle.

Oloughlin was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he was identified by law enforcement. He is currently being held at the jail on a $3,000 bond, and he is facing the following charges: unarmed burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, first-degree petit theft over $100 but less than $300, and refusing to identify himself to a law enforcement officer.

A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, according to jail records.
