Traffic shift on U.S. 441 as crews continue making roadway improvements

State officials are advising motorists of a traffic shift on U.S. 441 as crews continue to make improvements near one of the busiest intersections in Ocala.

From Tuesday, April 30, through Thursday, May 2, motorists should expect traffic shifts on U.S. 441 from S.R. 40 to Northwest 2nd Street from 8:20 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. each evening.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the shift will allow crews to stripe and place barrier walls along the roadway.

“Please slowly approach the construction zone, merge safely into the open lane(s), and proceed cautiously through the work area,” reads a statement from FDOT.

The shift is another traffic change from FDOT Project 433661-1, which calls for “traffic operation improvements” to “improve the life of the pavement” along U.S. 441/South Pine Avenue, between SW 3rd Street and NW 2nd Street.

Crews have been working for weeks to mill and resurface the travel lanes and widen the turn lane.

The project also calls for minor drainage, pedestrian, sidewalk, intersection, and signalization improvements, according to FDOT.

Although FDOT’s website indicates lane closures will last 24 hours a day through April 30, Ocala officials have confirmed that construction will actually last through May.
