A 31-year-old Ocala woman was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly “bumping” another woman with her car in Marion County.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the intersection of Spring Drive Place and Emerald Road in reference to a hit and run, according to an MCSO arrest affidavit. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the victim who stated she had just been struck with a vehicle. The victim stated that as she was walking in the roadway, Wendy Harrington drove up to her in her vehicle and the two exchanged words, the affidavit stated. The victim stated that a few seconds later, Harrington intentionally bumped the victim’s knees with the vehicle, causing the victim to feel pain in her knees and she started screaming at Harrington who fled the location. The victim stated she and Harrington have had several issues between them in the past.
The deputy made contact with an eyewitness, whose statement was consistent with the victim’s statement. The witness stated as she was looking outside through her living room window, she observed the Harrington’s vehicle pull up to the victim as the victim was walking, stopping the vehicle in front of the victim and a few seconds later, Harrington drove slowly into the victim, bumping the victim with the vehicle.
The victim directed the deputy to Harrington’s residence at 8730 SE 79th Ave. Rd. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Harrington. Harrington stated as she was driving on Spring Drive Place, she observed the victim walking in the grass and as she approached the victim, the victim jumped in front of her vehicle, not allowing Harrington to drive pass. Harrington stated she and the victim exchanged words, and after the verbal altercation ended, she put her vehicle in reverse and drove around the victim. Harrington denied the allegations of bumping the victim with the vehicle. She also stated that she and the victim have had several confrontations in the past.
The deputy did not observe any injuries to the victim, but the victim advised she would be transporting herself to the hospital. The deputy placed the Harrington under arrest on a charge of aggravated battery. Harrington was transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $10,000.
