Ocala Police officers rushed to a local bank Thursday afternoon in response to a robbery.
Officers arrived at the Chase Bank, located at 2525 SW 42nd St., at 2:13 p.m. and following a brief foot pursuit, 54-year-old Paul Douglas VanKooten was arrested and taken into custody.
Trinity Catholic High School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but it was lifted a short time later.
VanKooten was booked into the Marion County Jail at 5:03 p.m. He was charged with bank robbery with a firearm and resisting arrest without violence.
VanKooten, who is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, was being held on $21,000 bond. He has been housed at the jail 14 times since May 2003.
Prior to Thursday’s arrest, the last time he was in the facility was June 3, 2017, when he was charged with battery on a person 65 or older.
