An Ocala woman was killed Monday morning after her car left the roadway and struck a tree on the Florida Turnpike.
Maria Echevarria-Rosario, 35, had been at the wheel of a 2008 Toyota traveling southbound near Mile Marker 299 in Sumter County at 10:02 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The vehicle entered a median and she overcorrected. The car then left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and struck a tree.
Echevarria-Rosario was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The report noted she had been wearing a seatbelt.
