An Ocala man was arrested Sunday night after a violent altercation with a woman who was picking up her son.
The woman told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that 30-year-old Darrias Jermaine Hutchinson struck her vehicle and when got out to assess the damage, he “charged her and began to choke her,” a sheriff’s office report states.
A witness confirmed the altercation and said that Hutchinson “put his hands on the victim.” The deputy also noted three superficial lacerations to the woman’s neck, which she claimed were from Hutchinson’s fingernails, the report says.
Hutchinson told the deputy that the woman had engaged him in a verbal altercation when she came to pick up her son. He said he asked her to leave because she had been issued a trespass warning in the past and he then “separated” himself from the situation, the report says.
A records check showed that the woman had never been trespassed from Hutchinson’s residence, which is located on Walnut Road. Records also showed that the Hutchinson had been convicted of simple domestic battery on April 27, 2017.
Hutchinson was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and an outstanding warrant for being in contempt of court on child support. He was held on no bond on the contempt of court charge and $2,000 bond on the domestic battery charge. He is scheduled be in a Marion County courtroom on April 2 to answer to the battery charge.
