It was a long time coming, but the City of Ocala looks poised to open its first-ever skate park in a little over a month and a half.
The project, which dates back to a public survey and community meeting in 2012 to evaluate citizen interest and support for a public skate park, took years to materialize and should see its culmination in a grand opening ceremony set for May 18 at Tuscawilla Park.
This past December, the city broke ground on the new skate park. This past week, the company in charge of constructing the park, Team Pain, posted updated photos of the park as it approaches its final phases of construction.
The park, which was first conceptualized nearly 11 months ago, is a much-needed recreational facility. According to staff, there are approximately 4,000 skateboarders in Ocala and 22,000 in Marion County.
