A Salt Springs woman was jailed on a domestic battery charge late Saturday night, even though the alleged victim said the altercation was just a verbal argument.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a physical disturbance at a residence on NE 248th Terrace, where the victim said he had been in an argument with 28-year-old Charity Hutton over some comments he made the previous night. The victim said the argument was not physical in nature, but the deputy observed fresh physical injuries to the left side of his neck and fresh blood on his shirt, according to the arrest report.
The witness who called law enforcement told the deputy she observed the victim and Hutton involved in a verbal altercation that became physical. The witness said during the height of the argument, she saw Hutton strike the victim in the face. The witness provided a sworn written statement, according to the report.
Hutton denied all allegations. She was charged with simple domestic battery and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Monday on $1,000 bond. She’ll answer to the charge in Marion County Court on May 17.
