Body-spraying Ocala man behind bars after deodorant incident at discount store

Dennis Lee Anderson

An Ocala man who covered his body with deodorant spray inside a discount store and then fought with Ocala police officers is behind bars.

When officers arrived at the Dollar General store at 4901 E Silver Springs Blvd. on Tuesday, the manager said that that 30-year-old Dennis Lee Anderson had taken a can of Axe Body Spray, sprayed it all over his body and then put the can back on the shelf. The manager then told Anderson to leave, as he was no longer welcome in the store. He left for a brief time but then returned and refused to leave the location again, an Ocala police report says.

After briefly struggling with officers, Anderson was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. During a subsequent search, an officer found a plastic jar with a red lid in his right pants pocket, the report says.

Inside the jar was one clear baggie containing crystal rocks that tested positive for methamphetamine, a clear baggie containing white soap-looking rocks and three other loose white rocks that all test positive for crack/cocaine, the report says.

Anderson was issued a trespass warning and then charged with petit theft, resisting arrest without force, possession of crack/cocaine and possession of methamphetamine. He is being held on $6,000 bond and is due in court on May 14 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.
