The Marion County Sheriff’s Office recently donated a portable X-ray machine to the county’s Animal Services office – a move that was blessed by Marion County commissioners last week.
Prior to the donation, Animal Services didn’t have the equipment to identify or detect possible internal injuries in animals. The X-ray machine will eliminate the need for staff members to seek assistance from other agencies in emergency situations with animals – especially when time is off the essence, commissioners were told.
The equipment is expected to have a long-lasting impact on the Animal Services office to provide better care for animals in the community. It also will be beneficial by providing evidence that may be crucial to the legal pursuit of animal cruelty cases, commissioners were told.
