An Ocala man was arrested for allegedly trashing his estranged girlfriend’s home and stealing her cell phone, home phone and wallet containing cash.

Andre Eugene Smith, 36, of 11050 NW 8th St., was charged with grand theft from a dwelling of items valued between $100 and $300 after the incident, which happened Saturday at the victim’s residence on NE 9th Avenue. The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy Smith lived with her for the last two months and they were going through a separation, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Smith had been drinking that morning and started an argument. She said he left temporarily but came back and started throwing flowerpots through all her windows and the front door. The victim said Smith also broke her property including a microwave, flat screen TV, and vanity mirror. She said he took her cell and home phones, as well as her wallet containing more than $200 in cash, the report said.

The victim’s neighbor, who called 911, told the deputy he saw Smith breaking the windows of the victim’s home and heard him breaking items while inside. The deputy observed broken flowerpots throughout the home, multiple broken windows, broken glass on the floor and damaged items including a TV, microwave and a dresser mirror. The total value of the stolen items was $740, while the value of the damaged items was $400, according to the report.

Smith was apprehended Sunday afternoon and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Monday on $2,000 bond. No court date has been set.
