A motorcyclist believed to be about 60 years old was killed when he collided with another vehicle on Pine Avenue in Ocala on Tuesday afternoon.

A motorcyclist was killed in Ocala early Thursday afternoon when he collided with a vehicle that had just pulled out of a gas station.

A motorcyclist believed to be about 60 years old was killed when he collided with another vehicle on Pine Avenue in Ocala on Thursday afternoon.

Ocala Police officers and crews from Ocala Fire Rescue scrambled to the 2:20 p.m. crash on Pine Avenue south of SE 17th Street. When they arrived a short time later, they found a heavily damaged motorcycle and a white, four-door sedan with front-end damage sitting in the roadway.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the passenger vehicle had just left a gas station on Pine Avenue when it veered into the inside lane. The motorcycle was traveling in that lane and struck the left front fender of the sedan, an Ocala Police report states.

The collision that left a motorcyclist dead on Thursday afternoon took place in front of a Burger King restaurant on Pine Avenue.

Both drivers were transported to area hospitals. The motorcyclist, believed to be about 60 years old, died of his injuries at the hospital. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Traffic homicide investigators are still looking into the circumstances of the crash. No criminal charges or citations had been issued as of Thursday night, the report says.

Police officers had shut down all lanes of traffic shortly after the crash. Those lanes were reopened around 5 p.m. after being cleared and deemed safe for travel.
