An Ocala man was reportedly four times the legal limit when he was charged with DUI recently.
At around 1:39 a.m. Sunday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle traveling westbound on East Fort King Street being driven by a white male who was not wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle approached a stop sign at SW 1st Avenue and came to a stop completely past the white stop bar, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The deputy then saw the vehicle approach SW 2nd Avenue and come to a complete stop where there is not a posted stop sign. The vehicle then made a very wide turn northbound onto SW 3rd Avenue before the deputy conducted a traffic stop, the report said.
The deputy spoke with the driver – Matthew Edward Pietrzak, 27, of 56 SE 1st Ave. – and immediately noticed the odor of alcohol on his breath. Pietrzak, whose eyes were bloodshot, agreed to perform a series of field sobriety exercises and failed every one of them, according to the report.
Pietrzak submitted to a breath test that returned results of .330 and .329 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath. The legal limit in Florida is .08. Pietrzak was charged with DUI with a BAC level above .15 and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released later Sunday on $1,000 bond.
