The Ocala Police Department has identified the teenage victim of a homicide that took place Sunday at the Sutton Place Apartments.

Officers were called to the apartment complex, located at 534 N.E. 23rd Circle, at 12:03 p.m. and when they arrived, they found 15-year-old Chris Chevelon Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers performed live-saving measures on Chevelon until paramedics arrived. Chevelon was then transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, a report states.

Based on evidence and witness statements, police believe a vehicle stopped and its unknown occupants confronted Chevelon and his friends as they walked outside the apartment complex. Shots were then fired from the vehicle and Chevelon was hit, the report says.

Ocala Police Major Crimes detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are treating the case as a homicide. They are seeking to find out if Chevelon was experiencing any problems with a particular person or group.

Detectives are developing leads and speaking with witnesses in order to locate a suspect. Anyone who has information about the case is asked to the Ocala Police Department at (352) 369-7000.
