An 86-year-old Citra man was killed Wednesday afternoon when the van he was driving collided with a truck tractor driven by a 26-year-old Bartow man.
The crash took place around 1 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 318 and U.S. 301 in Marion County. The Citra man was traveling east on CR 318 when the driver of the truck failed to stop at a red light at the busy intersection. The front of the truck collided with the right side of the van and the driver was ejected from the vehicle, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
Both vehicles came to rest on U.S. 301. The driver of the van, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck tractor, who was wearing his seat belt, wasn’t injured, the FHP report says.
