A 45-year-old Ocala woman with a history of driving with a suspended license said she was driving to her grandmother’s house for an emergency when she was pulled over recently.
Shortly before 2 a.m. April 14, a Lake County sheriff’s deputy observed a green Ford pickup truck traveling east on SW Highway 200. The deputy ran a computer check that showed the registered owner had a suspended license, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The deputy pulled over and spoke with the driver – Torrie Kaye Ritchie, of 11281 SW 76th Ave. – who immediately got out of the vehicle and said she was driving to her grandmother’s house for an emergency. She said she knew her license was suspended, the report said.
A further check of her driving record showed two active suspensions: April 12 for failure to pay a traffic fine and Oct. 29, 2020 for refusing to submit to a breath, urine, or blood test. She has prior convictions for driving with a suspended license in 1998 and 2019, according to the report.
Ritchie was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was held Thursday on $10,000 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on May 18.
