An Ocala woman put up a fight while she was being arrested on a domestic battery charge recently.

In addition to simple domestic battery, 39-year-old Tara Marie Suitter was also charged with resisting an officer without violence after the early morning incident.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy he came home from a party and got into an argument with Suitter. He said he went inside to get his belongings and leave. The victim said while he was inside, Suitter punched him in the face, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said he went outside the residence and Suitter locked the door. He said he wanted to get the rest of his belongings and leave. The deputy observed the center of the victim’s upper lip had a fresh cut, the report said.

Suitter told the deputy she informed the victim she wasn’t feeling well and asked him to come home. She said he procrastinated in returning home and they got into an argument when he arrived. Suitter said she put the victim’s belongings outside. She said she did not strike the victim and the victim did not strike her, according to the report.

Suitter’s father was an eyewitness. He said he saw Suitter and the victim arguing but didn’t see any physical altercation occur, the report said

The deputy told Suitter, who was sitting on the living room couch, she was arrested. Suitter refused to stand up despite being asked to multiple times. When the deputy used a light touch to grab Suitter’s right arm, she stood up and said, “Don’t (expletive deleted) touch me.” The deputy told Suiter to place her hands behind her back and she refused and continued to jerk away, according to the report.

The deputy escorted Suitter to the floor and tried to put Suitter in handcuffs, but she continued to resist. She said, “I’ll go, get off me,” but she still refused to comply. Suitter finally complied after the officer drew a taser and pointed it at her, the report said.

The deputy placed Suitter in handcuffs and started to escort her to the patrol car, but she refused to come out of the house. Suitter pulled away, causing the deputy to have to physically remove her from the house and place her in the back of the patrol car, according to the report.

Once Suitter was arrested, her father told the deputy the victim had pushed her into the wall. He said he did not see Suitter strike the victim. Suitter showed the deputy a large hole in the wall, which looked to be from someone being pushed into it, the report said.

Asked why there was a hole in the wall, the victim said he fell into it after Suitter punched him, according to the report.

After being read her Miranda warning, Suitter said the victim pushed her into the wall. She said she didn’t tell the deputy earlier because she didn’t want to get him in trouble. Suitter said she didn’t know how the victim received his injury, the report said.

Suitter also said the victim threw her into a bush during the argument and showed the deputy a red mark on her left side.  The deputy was not told about the mark until after he escorted her to the ground. Suitter did not have any marks on her back where she claimed to have been pushed into the wall, according to the report.

Suitter was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released the next day on $1,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on June 9.
