The new Department of Veterans’ Affairs hospital in southwest Ocala is planning to open this fall.
During the Tuesday, August 3 meeting of the Ocala City Council, Growth Management Director Tye Chighizola indicated that the hospital was targeting a November opening date.
Chighizola made the comment while speaking about new changes to SunTran bus routes, which he says will extend service to the new VA Clinic.
Currently, a sign in front of the hospital indicates that it will open this fall.
Major construction of the new hospital, which is located at 4826 SW 49th Road, was completed earlier this year.
Despite the rise in associated construction costs over the past year, including lumber, the new clinic was constructed in brisk fashion, as crews began work on the property just over one year ago.
The clinic joins a couple of others that are located nearby.
Currently, there are VA Clinics located in Ocala at 1515 E Silver Springs Blvd (The Cascades), and in The Villages at 8900 SE 165th Mulberry Lane.
Multiple businesses have opened or plan to open new locations near the new VA Clinic.
