A 58-year-old Ocala woman was arrested after stealing a package from outside a Marion Oaks residence.

On Monday, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a Marion Oaks residence on SW 39th Court Road in reference to a stolen package.

A female victim told the deputy that she had observed a woman, later identified as Abigale Geathers, walk up to her front door and retrieve a package.

The victim watched this happen on her doorbell camera.

Geathers took the package and started walking down the street. The victim ran out of the house and caught up with her.

According to the victim, Geathers stated that she was the neighborhood postmaster. She then made the victim verify her name and address.

After confirming this information, the victim demanded that the package be returned, and Geathers handed it back to the victim.

An MCSO deputy reviewed the doorbell camera footage and recognized Geathers due to previous encounters with her. A photo lineup was administered, and the victim positively identified Geathers.

The deputy responded to Geathers’ residence. She initially denied stealing the package, but upon seeing the doorbell camera footage, she admitted to taking it.

Geathers pointed out that she returned the package to the victim. She also claimed that she was walking around the neighborhood to verify that the packages are being delivered to the correct locations.

Geathers was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where she is currently being held on $2,000 bond. She is facing felony charges for burglary and grand theft.

A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on January 18, 2022, according to jail records.
