More local residents recently wrote in to share their thoughts on the topic of bringing commercial flights to Ocala International Airport.

“I support flights coming out of Ocala International Airport. I would much rather spend my money in my own community than pay $20 in tolls, plus parking fees, to fly out of Orlando. The airport is already here and our county needs local revenue. I definitely will support it and use it for my travel,” says Ocala resident Lesly Fehn.

“I agree with Bill. This would be a benefit with no detriments. It is a “no public cost” option, as we are paying for it anyway. It will not disturb the horse farms like the gang of highways and toll roads that are being built, regardless of public opinion to the adverse. As I see it, there are two options: make it public so everyone can use it, or make it private so the users can pay for it and give us tax relief,” says Michael Pollak, Lady Lake resident.

“Air transportation services from Ocala to major travel hubs would be helpful. I lived in a city one-third the size of Ocala with airline service to Boston, New York City, Chicago, and others. Typically, smaller planes were used depending on the passenger volume. The airport was in the middle of encroaching suburbia and there were few complaints. This brought convenience to residents, accessibility to and from a small town, and increased commerce,” says Ocala resident John Bourland.

“Dear Sirs and Ladies: please be aware, out-of-date knowledge is dangerous. The owners of the World Equestrian Center are willing to support commercial air transport similar to Vail and Aspen (seasonal). I am a seasoned traveler and have witnessed small markets expand. Do not be an uneducated voice. Ocala needs a commercial jet service. Let’s stop being a  problem and instead be a solution,” says Nigel Wallbank, Ocala resident.
