A 34-year-old Ocala man with multiple felony warrants out of Marion County was arrested after a SWAT team member located him inside the attic of a local residence.
On Sunday at around 9:15 a.m., an Ocala Police Department officer was patrolling near the 1500 block of NE 9th Street when Logan Wilson was spotted sitting on the front porch of a residence.
The officer recognized Wilson and was aware that he had multiple felony warrants out for his arrest due to a parole violation for domestic battery and aggravated stalking. According to OPD, Wilson was a violent offender and had recently made threats that concerned the police department.
When Wilson noticed the officer, he ran inside the residence. The officer called for backup and an initial perimeter was established around the residence. An OPD crisis negotiator attempted to communicate with Wilson using a cellphone and a speaker system.
A relative of Wilson told officers that there were no weapons inside the residence.
When Wilson did not respond to the crisis negotiator, the officers on scene requested assistance from the SWAT team. Upon the SWAT team’s arrival, a chemical agent was deployed inside the residence in an attempt to safely apprehend Wilson.
The SWAT team members entered the home and conducted a search for Wilson. One of those team members checked the attic and located Wilson underneath the insulation. He was hiding between two rafter beams.
Wilson did not respond to commands and the SWAT team member observed that he had likely passed out due to heat exhaustion.
The SWAT team carried Wilson out of the residence while he was unconscious. Medical assistance was rendered, and he became combative with the officers once he regained consciousness.
Wilson was restrained and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment related to heat exposure. When he was medically cleared, Wilson was arrested on the multiple felony warrants and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
