A 29-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a woman’s residence in Marion County and sent her multiple messages while inside the home.
On Friday, October 14, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office Deputy spoke with a female victim over the phone who reported that Cody Lance Hills had broken into her home.
According to the victim, Hills had contacted her while inside the residence, and he was allegedly “threatening to kill himself” if she refused to leave work early to come home. She advised that Hills wanted to “hash things out” with her.
When the victim told Hills that she did not want to speak with him, she stated that it “enraged” him. She told the deputy that Hills attempted to contact her through numerous social media and messaging platforms including Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, text messages, video calls, and voice calls.
The victim stated Hills sent her video messages which clearly showed that he was inside her home. She told the deputy that Hills had relocated to Kansas, and she was not aware that he was in Florida until she received those video messages.
In one of the voicemails that the victim received from Hills, she stated that she heard multiple sounds that were similar to gunshots being fired. She advised that there are firearms inside her home, and Hills was aware of the location where the firearms were being stored.
The MCSO report stated that several deputies arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with Hills by calling his cellphone and using a patrol vehicle’s loudspeaker to request that he exit the victim’s home. After an extended period of time, Hills eventually walked outside the residence and demanded that the deputies “shoot him.”
Hills was detained by the deputies. After being read his Miranda rights, Hills claimed that he had permission to be inside the victim’s residence. According to the MCSO report, Hills refused to answer any specific questions and he repeatedly challenged the criteria of the investigation that led to him being detained.
Hills was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $20,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge for unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and a misdemeanor charge for harassing and cyberstalking.
A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, November 15 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
