Ocala Drive In Theatre

The Ocala Drive-In will host a free movie night to kick off this year’s Red Ribbon Week.

The free event will take place tonight, October 21, at the Ocala Drive-In, which is located at 4850 S Pine Avenue in Ocala. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the following PG-rated movies will be shown:

  • Screen 1 will feature “Hocus Pocus” and “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
  • Screen 2 will feature “Minions: Rise of Gru” and “The Goonies.”

Before the movies begin, the event will also offer free Sno-Cones, interactive and first-responder displays, swag bags (while supplies last), and other features.

Red Ribbon Week is Marion County’s yearly initiative in October to promote healthy lifestyles for children by encouraging them to avoid drugs and alcohol. The theme of this year’s campaign is: “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.”

The week-long awareness campaign is sponsored by the Marion County Children’s Alliance and the Community Council Against Substance Abuse in partnership with the Florida Department of Health in Marion County.

Representatives of DOH-Marion’s risk-avoidance team (BRAZEN) and Safe Kids program will attend the kickoff event with educational materials for youth and parents.

Marion County’s efforts are part of a national Red Ribbon campaign that involves more than 100,000 schools and organizations. The event is dedicated to DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, who was murdered in 1985 by drug traffickers in Mexico.
