The Gainesville Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Monday morning in the 3300 block of S Main Street in Gainesville.

On Monday, shortly before 9:40 a.m., GPD officers responded to the scene of a crash involving a vehicle and bicyclist. According to GPD, a resident had observed “vehicle and bicycle debris” in the west side of the roadway and sidewalk on S Main Street, and the resident spotted the body of a deceased male in a wooded area near the debris.

GPD launched an investigation into the crash and learned that the bicyclist was traveling southbound in the curbside lane when he was struck from behind by a silver vehicle that was also traveling south on S Main Street.

Parts of the hit-and-run suspect’s vehicle were located at the scene of the crash and were identified as a 2016-2022 silver Volvo XC90 (SUV) with significant front passenger-side damage, according to GPD.
