controlled burn
Natural disaster in spring forest: burning dry grass in meadow. Soft focus, blur from strong wildfire.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is urging motorists to use caution due to several prescribed burns that are planned today throughout Marion County.

Cross Florida Greenway will conduct a 200-acre prescribed burn in the Landbridge area. This longleaf pine plantation is located on the west side of CR 475A, just south of the Landbridge Trailhead.

The trailhead is the east access point to the Landbridge over Interstate 75 and is highly popular with trail users. During this prescribed burn, Cross Florida Greenway will close most of the trails, including the paved trail in that section, until they determine that it is safe to reopen.

Two additional prescribed burns are also planned today: the St. Johns River Water Management District will conduct a 1,300-acre prescribed burn in the Sunnyhill area and the Lake George Ranger District will conduct a 973-acre prescribed burn just south of Rodman Dam and west of NFR 11.

Any motorists encountering smoky conditions should exercise caution by slowing down and utilizing low-beam headlights in order to adapt to changing weather conditions.
