A 60-year-old Ocala man was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly threatened to harm his roommate with a knife.

On Monday, an MCSO deputy was at the Circle K gas station located at 6820 SE Maricamp Road in Ocala when a concerned citizen approached the deputy to advise that a suspicious person was walking on Pine Road, according to the arrest report.

The deputy located a man, identified in the report as Johnny Cordero, walking in the 6800 block of Pine Road. Cordero informed the deputy that he was “separating himself from an argument with his roommate.”

Cordero advised that he had a traumatic brain injury, and he showed the deputy a scar on his head. The deputy noted in the MCSO report that Cordero’s breath smelled of alcohol.

After completing a well-being check on Cordero, the deputy responded to a residence on Pecan Drive Pass in reference to a verbal altercation. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the male victim who stated that Cordero rents a room in the home, and Cordero had allegedly threatened to harm him with a knife, according to the MCSO report.

The victim advised that Cordero had approached him inside the residence and told him, “I’m going to kill you.” Moments later, the victim sat at the kitchen table, and Cordero allegedly grabbed a knife and approached him at the table.

According to the victim, Cordero told him, “I will kill you.” The victim advised that Cordero then walked away and began slashing his bed, which was located in a makeshift bedroom. Cordero then began packing his possessions, and he allegedly threatened to kill the victim once more before leaving the residence.

The deputy noted in the report that a witness in the residence did not see the incident, but the witness recalled hearing Cordero threaten to kill the victim. The witness also advised that the knife was found in Cordero’s makeshift bedroom, and the witness had briefly moved the knife before placing it on Cordero’s dresser so law enforcement could see it.

Two MCSO deputies responded to the 6800 block of Pine Road, and they located Cordero and detained him in handcuffs. According to the MCSO report, Cordero repeatedly ignored verbal commands, pulled and pushed away from the deputies, and he became “physically resistant.” Due to Cordero’s behavior, the deputies escorted him to the ground.

After being read his Miranda rights, Cordero advised that he had gotten into an argument with the victim. While he admitted to using a knife to cut his pillows and mattress, he advised that he never threatened to kill anyone, according to the MCSO report.

Cordero was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail. The arrest report stated that Cordero repeatedly called the deputy who was driving the patrol car a “homosexual,” and he also allegedly stated that the deputy’s mother “sucks (expletive).”

Cordero is currently being held at Marion County Jail on $3,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and a misdemeanor charge for resisting an officer without violence.

A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, according to jail records.
