Marion County Fire Rescue has announced the hiring of Juan Atan as Deputy Chief.

Atan is scheduled to officially begin his career with MCFR on July 31. He will work alongside Deputy Chief and 2022 Marilyn Cook EMS Pioneer Award winner Rodney Mascho to learn the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division until Mascho’s retirement later this year.

Atan currently serves as the Interim EMS Director of Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, Colorado. Prior to taking that role, he retired as the EMS Chief from Orange County Fire Rescue in 2022 after a lengthy and distinguished career.

According to MCFR, Atan’s expertise includes facility operations administration, cost control, strategic planning, patient safety enhancement, crisis intervention and management, EMS, and incident command. Additionally, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Health Administration and a Master of Science in Homeland Security.

In a social media post, Marion County Fire Chief James Banta stated, “I am excited for Chief Atan to join the ranks of MCFR and am looking forward to his expertise and experience being a benefit to all.”
