HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital have been awarded an ‘A’ safety grade from The Leapfrog Group following a recent evaluation of general hospitals across the country.

This national distinction celebrates both hospitals’ achievements in protecting their patients from preventable harm and medical errors. The new grades reflect performance primarily during the height of the pandemic.

“We’re proud to be a leader in patient safety within our community, and this honorable designation signals what we do every day – we show up,” said Alan Keesee, HCA Florida Ocala Hospital CEO. “We show up for our patients, staff and neighbors by creating a safe place to heal, recover and work.”

Keesee added that this is the fourth consecutive designation for HCA Florida West Marion Hospital and third in a row for HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. “I’d like to thank our team members for their dedication to this mission; it takes everyone doing their part to earn this achievement.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national organization that assigns safety grades (A, B, C, D, or F) to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures such as errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and the systems those hospitals have in place to prevent harm to patients.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program that is based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. The grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
