Marion Technical College is receiving over $5 million to expand its mechanics programs.

State officials recently approved $5.57 million in funding for the school, which will be utilized to build a new facility on the MTC campus to house programs for the automotive, aviation, and diesel mechanics industries.

The new center will be located at 1014 SW 7th Road in Ocala, and it will offer training for automotive general service technicians, automotive collision refinishing technicians, aviation powerplant/airframe mechanics, and diesel systems technicians.

“The need for these skilled positions has grown exponentially in the Ocala/Marion County area for years without a solution to meet that need,” stated Marion County Public Schools in a press release.

The new 15,000 square-foot facility will include three classrooms, multiple work bays, storage, an office area, and restrooms. Funds will also help provide startup technology, tools, equipment, and furniture for the facility.

Construction is expected to begin this October and be completed by September 2025. MTC expects to serve up to 100 students each year among the programs.
