One person was hospitalized on Saturday afternoon after a home caught on fire in northwest Ocala.

At 4:55 p.m., firefighters from Marion County Fire Rescue and Ocala Fire Rescue were dispatched to a residence located in the 5500 block of NW 39th Lane in Ocala. Multiple individuals had called 911 to report that smoke and flames were visible, and they advised that one person was still inside the home, according to a social media post from MCFR.

MCFR’s Rescue 12 unit was the first to arrive at the home at 5:01 p.m., and crew members observed heavy smoke and flames rising from the roof.

Additional units soon arrived at the residence, and multiple hose lines were deployed as crews began aggressively attacking the blaze.

While firefighters were inside the home, the roof collapsed over the garage. MCFR stated that all firefighters were accounted for and managed to avoid injury.

Firefighters continued to attack the flames, and the fire was called under control shortly before 5:20 p.m. According to MCFR, one of the home’s occupants was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family that was displaced by the fire.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
