A 23-year-old Citra man died on Friday evening after he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a tree in Marion County.
At around 5:45 p.m., the man was traveling northbound in a pickup truck on County Road 318, near the intersection of NE 199th Street Road, when his vehicle veered off the roadway and traveled onto the west shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.
FHP stated that the front of the pickup truck collided with a traffic sign before traveling across the roadway and onto the east shoulder. The vehicle then struck a utility pole.
After colliding with the pole, the pickup truck continued traveling northbound on County Road 318. Moments later, the vehicle returned to the west shoulder where it crashed into a tree.
The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck sustained fatal injuries, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It is unknown if the man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the FHP report.
