Mr. James “Jim” Allen Salyer, 84, of Dunnellon, FL died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at his home. He was born on June 22, 1939, in Pike County, Kentucky.

Jim grew up in Kentucky and loved sharing stories of his youth and early years there, often recounting the same stories over and over to delighted family and friends. He was a star basketball player on his high school team, only sidelined by an injury, and then went on to graduate in 1957. He met the love of his life, Mary Sue Collins, in Kentucky, and they were married on February 6, 1960, and started a life together. They soon moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, as he started work as a sales representative with TRW, where he would continue to work for the next 29 years. His job took him and his family to Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia, and finally Mocksville, North Carolina where the family finally settled in 1976. TRW was acquired by Federal-Mogul and Jim worked for them until his retirement. He and Mary Sue then moved to Dunnellon, Florida, where they have lived for 19 years.

Jim had the quickest wit and was often heard laughing and making others laugh. He took great pleasure in teasing his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In truth, his family was his greatest joy. He loved most of all when everyone was together. He is preceded in death by his parents: Elmo Salyer Sloane of Kentucky and Dorpha Snodgrass of Kentucky.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Mary Sue Salyer; children, Vanessa Robinson (Bruce) of Mocksville, NC, and Kimberly Griffin (Shea) of Pleasant Hill, CA; grandsons, Ryan Robinson (Stephanie), Tyler Robinson (Carly), and a great-grandchildren; Cheyenne Robinson, Cooper Robinson, Drew Robinson, Eleanor Robinson, and Kylie Robinson.

John 16:22 – And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
