A 48-year-old convicted felon from Citra is behind bars after several firearms and over a dozen boxes of ammunition were found in his bedroom.
Last week, an MCSO corporal received a tip that a registered sexual offender, identified as Brian David Parmelee, was allegedly in possession of multiple firearms, including a 12-gauge shotgun and handgun; a stolen farm tractor; a stolen car-hauling trailer; and five pounds of marijuana, according to the arrest report.
The report stated that Parmelee, a convicted felon, was previously convicted of driving with a suspended license (third offense) in 2009, lewd and lascivious molestation in 2014, and failure to comply with sexual offender requirements in 2017.
On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the corporal and a detective responded to Parmelee’s registered address located in the 14400 block of NE Jacksonville Road in Citra. Upon arrival, they made contact with Parmelee in the garage, and he consented to a search of his property, according to the report.
After Parmelee placed his dog in the master bedroom, the corporal and detective completed a search of every room in the home except the bedroom. The report stated that when the corporal advised that the bedroom also needed to be searched, Parmelee asked, “You want to go in there with the dog?”
The corporal noted in the report that after being allowed inside the bedroom, Parmelee sat on the right side of the bed. On the floor, near where Parmelee was sitting, the corporal observed a hard plastic handgun case that contained a loaded .45 caliber magazine.
When asked about the location of the handgun, Parmelee claimed that he “gave it to his son.” Shortly after that statement was made, the detective located the handgun underneath a jacket that was also partially covering 17 boxes of “multiple different types of ammunition,” according to the report.
The report stated that the detective also observed a 12-gauge shotgun and rifle “in plain view” that were leaning against a dresser in the bedroom. Parmelee advised that he uses the firearms to “protect his chickens from coyotes.”
Parmelee was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held without bond. He is facing felony charges for possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon (four counts).
A court date has been scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, according to jail records.
