Barbara J. McDermott of Ocala, Florida passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the age of 92. Barbara was born on December 11, 1931 in Cranston, Rhode Island.
After graduating from high school in Rhode Island, Barbara worked as a whip-smart secretary in the legal profession. She was actively involved in her community in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, where she and her spouse, the late Robert (Bob) McDermott, rode horses and played tennis. After Barbara and Bob moved to Ocala, they continued to be active in their community. Barbara was an avid tap dancer, and regularly performed in shows at Marion Landing. She considered many there to be dear friends.
Barbara is survived by her grand-daughter Susan McDermott-Mercer, her nieces Rochelle Marchi, Kimberly Jordan, and Yvette Rosati, her sister Doris Gagnon, her relative, Joan Williams, and her long-time friend, Christine Taylor.
The family would like to thank Eugene Simonds and Sandra Rouse for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.
Per Barbara’s wishes, she will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery with Bob, her husband of almost 50 years, without a memorial service. In Barbara’s honor, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
