Gloria F. Coyne
November 13, 1927 – January 23, 2024

Gloria Frances Coyne (MacLeod), of Dunnellon, Florida passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born on November 13, 1927 in Bangor, Maine to the late Walter William and Eunice Frances (Pooler) MacLeod.

She spent her early adult life in Maine and Vermont. The family moved fairly often as her father was a supervisor in various paper mills. She attended business school in Massachusetts.

She married John Edward Coyne, Jr. in 1953, raising their four children in Portland, Maine. Gloria held several positions including employment with the Portland Police Department, Union Mutual, and she eventually retired from Portland Pipeline.

Gloria and John enjoyed traveling. Scotland and Ireland were favorite destinations. Gloria and John relocated to Florida in 1995. They enjoyed taking rides in the countryside and visits from their children and grandchildren. “The state of Florida was the best way to keep my children returning”, Gloria joked. John passed in 1999 and Gloria moved to her Winston Park condo in St. Petersburg. She took great pride in renovating and decorating her condo. Gloria authored the Winston Park newsletter. She and 3 neighbors each hosted a weekly card night, typically playing canasta. She enjoyed her neighbors very much and often they would have breakfast together. Gloria and her friends would also enjoy the early bird specials at the Village Inn. Gloria was generous with her time, often taking her neighbors to their appointments.

Her family was the root of her joy. Gloria provided day care to her granddaughter, Meghan. Meghan was the only local grandchild and the two formed an incredibly tight bond which continued until her passing. They often told one another, “you are my sunshine”. Meghan asked Gloria to write the phrase and Meghan now has this tattooed on her arm in her GMa’s handwriting.

Gloria, along with her daughter, Karen and son, John (Jack) relocated to Ocala in 2016. Gloria lived with her son John for five years, thoroughly enjoying the picturesque setting in the trees. She loved watching the many birds which frequented the bird feeders that Jack installed for her.

Most recently, Gloria resided in a private residence in Dunnellon where she received loving support from her caretakers; Delena, Rosa, Heather, Shanell, and Tamera.

She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind heart, sense of humor, and her love for all those dear to her.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Eunice MacLeod; husband, John Edward Coyne, Jr. (passed in 1999) and four brothers, Donald, Stanley, Walter (Puggy)and Carl MacLeod.

She is survived by her children, Kimberlee (Ed) Spina of Prescott, Arizona; Karen (Ray) Chmielewski of Dunnellon, Florida; John Edward (Molly Dentremont) Coyne, III of Ocala, Florida; and David Andrew (Laurie Adams) Coyne of Westbrook, Maine; four grandchildren, Betsy (Mike) Buck, Kelsey (Zachary) Winkeler, David Andrew Coyne, Jr. and Meghan Chmielewski (Tony Sanchez), along with one great granddaughter, Ella Buck; sister-in-law Ellen Louise (Coyne) Doherty, and multiple nieces and nephews.
