A restaurant that served authentic Indian cuisine has closed its location in Ocala after a year and a half in business.
Akbar Indian Cuisine has permanently closed its location at 618 S Pine Avenue. As of Monday, the business was covered up and its website and social media listings are inactive.
The business’s Google listing also shows that it is “Permanently Closed.”
Located in Pine Plaza, Akbar was opened in the summer of 2022 by brothers Gurdev Singh and Balbir Singh. Before it closed, the restaurant showcased a variety of authentic, classic Indian dishes.
Return customers regularly noted the quality of the buffet, which featured butter chicken, dhaba chicken, goat curry, tandoori chicken, and vegan biryani, among many other options.
Akbar was among the most highly-rated restaurants in Ocala, with hundreds of positive reviews across Google, Yelp, and Trip Advisor.
The restaurant’s closure follows a year of similar closures across Ocala, including another Indian buffet.
That restaurant, Madras Cafe, closed its location last summer after just over a year in business.
In addition to the two Indian restaurants, recent closures include Blue Highway Pizzeria, Pie-O-Mine, Crave Hot Dogs & BBQ, and Lorito’s, which closed after a 50-year run.
