Marion County law enforcement authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant whose passing has sparked an outcry from his extended family for justice.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office confirmed this week that it is investigating the death of Daltin Lee Miller, a 14-month-old child who was found deceased in a northeast Ocala home on Friday, March 1.
According to a statement from MCSO, detectives are investigating Miller’s passing as an “unclassified death” and, as of Tuesday morning, are waiting for an autopsy report from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
“When the cause and manner report is returned to our detectives, they will have more information about the circumstances surrounding [Daltin’s] death,” reads a statement sent to Ocala-News.com by MCSO Public Information Officer Zach Moore.
No further information was provided by authorities regarding Miller’s death.
On social media, a Facebook group entitled “Justice for Daltin Lee Miller” has gained over 1,400 followers in the past few days.
According to group administrators and members of the child’s extended family, Miller had been in the custody of his biological aunt and uncle since he was born.
Miller’s extended family claims his aunt and uncle eventually lost custody to the child’s biological mother and father.
They claim the child died within three weeks of being in the parents’ custody, according to various statements issued through social media.
The group is asking anyone with a story about the child to come forward and share it at justicefordaltin@gmail.com.
