A new Mexican restaurant that has been in the works for several months within an Ocala shopping plaza is now open for business.
Catrina Cocina Mexicana officially opened its doors at Churchill Square on Monday, April 8. Located at 303 SE 17th Street, Suite 315, the business takes over a space formerly occupied by The Egg & I and Taylor’s.
The restaurant’s menu features a large collection of classic Mexican dishes including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, fajitas, and quesadillas.
In addition to the basics, Catrina also cooks up over a dozen house specials, from charbroiled skirt steak (churrasco) to tender pork tips (carnitas).
The newly renovated space features multiple murals with vibrant images that all lend themselves to the restaurant’s name: La Catrina is a sacred symbol of the Mexican Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos).
Catrina joins a growing number of Mexican restaurants and food trucks opening businesses in Ocala.
Last month, My Quate Taste-Mex opened a new restaurant at the former location of Havana 352, which closed in February.
El Patron Mexican Grill and Bar is currently under build-out near the Paddock Mall.
