Motorists should expect slowdowns and ramp closures on a stretch of Interstate 75 beginning Monday as crews work to remove a fiber optic cable.
The Florida Department of Transportation issued the advisory on Friday, April 19, for slowdowns that will begin on Monday, April 22, as soon as 8 a.m.
“Motorists are advised of a slowdown in traffic along northbound Interstate 75 (I-75) north of U.S. 27 and southbound I-75 north of County Road (C.R.) 318 in Marion County” reads the statement from FDOT.
The slowdowns are being enforced to allow Duke Energy to remove a fiber optic cable, according to FDOT.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers will slow traffic to 20 mph in both directions. Troopers will also briefly stop traffic for “5 to 10 minutes” at the State Road 326 on ramp to northbound I-75 and the C.R. 318 on ramp to southbound I-75, according to FDOT.
The department is advising all drivers to expect delays and to drive alert, avoid distractions, and follow the directions of FHP troopers.
