John Joseph Scheuren

John Joseph Scheuren, 61, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in Ocala.

He was a graduate of St. Pete High School, Class of 1981 and lived a fulfilling life of adventures. He trained and obtained his pilot ratings at the local downtown airport of Albert Whitted while working in the family business of J&P Markets with his sister Paula Ryan (Scheuren). After receiving several pilot ratings, his aviation career included air ambulance, banner towing, and flying for Eastern Airlines.

After Eastern Airlines shut its doors, John turned to sailing by working at several companies including Blue Water Sailing as an instructor teaching countless people how to navigate and sail in the Caribbean.

One of his favorite musical groups was Jimmy Buffet. Jimmy fit the sailor life he lived, along with the open water and saltwater breezes that brought him new adventures daily. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether flying, sailing, scuba diving, parachuting, or pheasant hunting at the family home in Epiphany, South Dakota.

Amidst his adventures, he had several pets during his lifetime, Fred (cat), Otto (white German Shepard, and Cleo (border collie).
John Joseph Scheuren was born to John P. and Beverly Scheuren on January 3rd, 1963.

John is survived by his siblings Paula Ryan (Scott), Anne Lynch (Bill), Christopher “Pete” Scheuren, and Michael Scheuren (Dalia). In addition, he was an uncle to 12 nephews and nieces.

So, we say farewell to John, a man whose life was as boundless as the skies he soared and the seas he traveled.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala, FL, on Monday, April 22nd, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. The interment will follow at Holy Three Kings Cemetery, Epiphany, SD at the end of May.
