Hughie Wayne King, 88, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Patsy King, his four children, Vickie, Chuck, Ted, and John, his seven grandchildren, Ben, Dustin, C.J., Haylie, Hunter, Megan, and Riley, and four great-grandchildren.
Born on April 6, 1936, in Benham, Kentucky, Wayne was the eldest son of Hughie and Grace King. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Martin, and his brother Bobby King.
A star running back at Whitesberg High School, Wayne worked as a coal miner in the Kentucky mountains before relocating to Ocala in 1962. He was employed at Bayes Cleaners for five years before founding his own business, Wayne’s One-Hour Cleaners, which he operated until his retirement in 2004.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Wayne thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and was often found on his houseboat on Norris Lake in Tennessee. A well-known and respected figure in the Ocala community, Wayne formed countless friendships and business relationships over the years. He was a regular at Meadowbrook Church alongside his wife.
Wayne’s enduring sense of humor and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 5 p.m. at the Roberts of Ocala Downtown Chapel at 606 SW 2nd Avenue.
