A Winn-Dixie grocery store in south Ocala will be converted into an ALDI just over a year after the supermarket chain was acquired in a multi-billion dollar deal.

An “additions/alterations” building permit has been filed in Marion County for the Winn-Dixie located at 184 Marion Oaks Boulevard.

Records show that the store will be “sub-divided” and retrofitted with a new ALDI grocery store.

The permit was submitted on July 25 by 184 Marion Oaks BLVD, LLC, a limited liability company that is connected to a commercial real estate company based in New York.

No additional details regarding the renovation have been made available.

Just over a year ago, ALDI announced the acquisition of hundreds of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations, including three in Ocala.

There are two Winn-Dixie locations located in south and north Ocala at 184 Marion Oaks Boulevard and 7131 N. U.S. Hwy 441. Harveys Supermarkets has one location in Ocala at 3435 N Pine Avenue.

There are no records currently filed with the county that show renovation plans for either of the other stores.

Last week, a Winn-Dixie in The Villages announced that it would undergo remodeling to also be converted into an ALDI. According to Sumter County records, the cost to remodel that facility is approximately $1.9 million.

Currently, ALDI operates four locations across the city of Ocala. That includes two located on or near State Road 200, one in the east that serves Silver Springs, and one in the southeast that serves Silver Springs Shores.

The new location in Marion Oaks will be strategically located in an area that previously required customers to drive between 10 and 20 miles to get to the nearest ALDI.

Any Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores that are not converted will continue to operate under those brands, according to ALDI.
