A house fire in Silver Springs claimed the life of a family’s dog on Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, Marion County Fire Rescue units responded to a residence located in the 1200 block of NE 130th Terrace in Silver Springs. A 911 caller had reported that flames were visible on the roof, and a dog was trapped inside the residence, according to MCFR.

When the first MCFR unit arrived at the home, crew members observed heavy smoke and flames, which had spread to the attic. The firefighters quickly “went into offensive mode,” and additional units were requested to assist with battling the blaze.

While some of the firefighters focused on combating the attic fire, others searched the interior of the home. While inside the residence, firefighters discovered that the family’s dog was deceased.

“The residents were not home during the fire,” stated MCFR on social media.

It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the house fire. According to MCFR, the cause and origin of the blaze is under investigation.

There were no injuries reported to civilians or firefighters.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced family.
