The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to bring a construction worker’s killer to justice, more than a decade after his remains were found in Fort McCoy.

On August 18, 2014, a utility worker discovered human remains near the 19000 block of NE Highway 315, according to MCSO.

Detectives launched an investigation, which revealed that the human remains belonged to Vitaliy Olenchuk. It was determined that he had been murdered, with his cause of death being listed as “blunt-force trauma.”

The sheriff’s office stated that Olenchuk was born in Ukraine on December 9, 1972. When he came to the United States, he sought a new life, and he had connections to Eastern European communities in Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

Olenchuk worked in construction, and he was last confirmed alive on March 16, 2012. However, MCSO stated that evidence suggests Olenchuk may have been seen in the Marion County area in July of 2013.

“As we continue our investigation, we need your help to uncover the truth about what happened to Vitaliy,” said MCSO in a social media post. “His family deserves closure, and we are determined to bring the person responsible for his death to justice.”
