The Florida Highway Patrol has identified an Ocala man who is facing multiple charges, including DUI manslaughter, after his pickup truck was involved in a crash on U.S. Highway 441 that claimed the life of an elderly woman and left three others injured.

According to FHP, the suspected DUI driver, identified as 54-year-old William Allen Hibshman, was arrested and booked into Marion County Jail on Saturday, September 28, on the following charges: driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (fourth or subsequent offense), DUI manslaughter, DUI damage to property or a person (three counts), and criminal mischief with less than $200 in property damage.

The charges are in connection to a fatal accident that occurred at around 7:40 p.m. on Friday, September 27, near the intersection on U.S. Highway 441 and SE 92nd Loop in Marion County, according to an FHP report.

FHP stated that Hibshman was traveling northbound on Highway 441 in a pickup truck, near the intersection of SE 92nd Loop, when he approached a “slower moving” SUV.

A trooper noted in the report that the pickup truck proceeded to rear-end the SUV. As a result of the collision, one of the SUV’s passengers, a 72-year-old woman from Clermont, sustained fatal injuries.

The SUV’s remaining passengers – a 60-year-old Ocala woman and 72-year-old Clermont woman – were both listed in serious condition following the crash. The driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old Ocala man, sustained minor injuries.

Hibshman was also injured in the crash, with his injuries described as “minor” in the report.

Marion County Jail records show that Hibshman is currently being held without bond. A court date has not been scheduled yet.
