A man was hospitalized on Saturday evening after being shot in the parking lot at a local park while a youth football game was being played nearby.

According to the Ocala Police Department, officers responded to Jervey Gantt Park (2200 SE 36th Avenue) at around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, in reference to shots being fired. When officers arrived on scene, they found an adult male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound.

At the time of the shooting, a Marion County Youth Football League game was taking place on a field near the parking lot.

The unidentified male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were described by police as “non-life threatening.”

In a statement following the shooting, OPD said that its detectives are “actively investigating this incident.”
