Don Roy Freer, born on July 18, 1938, in Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. A dedicated family man and community member, Don is remembered for his unwavering spirit and love for life.
He served his country honorably in the Army before embarking on a successful career at IBM, from which he later retired.
Don had a passion for woodworking, often creating beautiful pieces that reflected his meticulous craftsmanship. He loved to paint. He was also an avid ham radio operator, enjoying the connections and conversations with fellow enthusiasts. Don had a special fondness for ice cream, a treat he cherished throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra B. Freer, and his two children, daughter Mary Elizabeth Freer and son John Patrick Freer. He also leaves behind stepdaughters Leigh Speight and Patsy Parson, along with stepson Mike Collins, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who will remember him for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him.
He is proceeded in death by his grandson Jonathan Parson and his first wife Mary Ellen Bryne Freer, His mother Cora May Freer and Harold E. Freer.
The family is going to have committal services for Don on Friday, January 10, at Florida National Cemetery at 1:00pm with the Marion County Memorial Honor Guard, and on Saturday, January 11, the family is going to have a gathering at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, 910 E Silver Springs Blvd from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the US Army giving final honors for Don. All are welcome to attend and share the celebration with the family.
