The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation after a car rear-ended a Marion County school bus that was slowing down to pickup a student on Thursday morning in Ocala.
The crash occurred at around 7:35 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, near the intersection of SW 27th Avenue and SW 66th Street, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that a car was traveling southbound on SW 27th Avenue, in the southbound lane, as it approached SW 66th Street.
A Marion County school bus was traveling ahead of the car in the southbound lane when its driver, a 61-year-old Ocala man, activated the yellow flashing lights to indicate that the bus was slowing down to pick up a child.
According to the report, the driver and sole occupant of the car – a 24-year-old man from Ocala – failed to slow down, and the front of the vehicle proceeded to collide with the back right section of the school bus.
At the time of the crash, there were no children on the school bus. The sole passenger was identified in the report as a 64-year-old Ocala woman.
There were no injuries reported.
