A new gateway sign over a stretch of Interstate 75 in Ocala was glowing early Thursday morning.
The gateway at the 42nd Street flyover on I-75 was spotted by local motorists on Thursday, January 30.
The installation of the gateway signage on I-75 in Marion County began over the summer.
Over the past several weeks, installation of the new signage ramped up, with readers reporting noticeable differences on the overpass.
Funded entirely by tourist development tax revenue from visitors, the south gateway welcomes northbound motorists to Marion County.
The other gateway signage will be installed at an interchange just north of Ocala, where the highly anticipated Buc-ee’s Ocala Travel Center is planned.
In addition to the gateway signage, the county installed two county line markers along the interstate in late 2023.
The gateway project is funded by the Tourist Development Tax, which is paid by visitors who stay in lodging in Marion County for six months or less.
